Popcorn lovers.

IMG_0266Last year I attempted my very first birthday cake project and had so much fun doing it, I thought I’d make another attempt for my friend Ryan’s birthday. Since he always throws the most elaborate birthday soirees AND happens to love popcorn, I tried to go all out, and thought a popcorn cake was only fitting. It also seems that I have a thing for food inspired cakes…?

Check out how I made this bucket of love below:

I baked 3 tiers of funfetti cake and stacked them on top of each other with rainbow chip frosting. After a crumb coat and a quick chill in the fridge, I rolled out red and white fondant and cut it into strips to form the popcorn bucket. Add the popcorn decal and white fondant trim to spruce it up, then melt down some white chocolate to add to the buttered popcorn and there you have it! It’s really not easier said than done, give it a try! :D

OK, tonight is the night to try this. Questions: Did you use 1 cake mix for the 3 tiers (8″ or 9″ rounds ??) OR did you use 2 cake mixes ? I’m really guessing that you did NOT use 3 cake mixes. :-)
