Aren’t you thankful someone made up such a wonderful holiday?! I decided since there are so many of these wacky “holidays,” that are simply forgotten and go unnoticed, I’m going to keep you up to speed and post about them from time to time. Aka a great excuse to break out the waffle iron or sample some cupcake flavors.
But truthfully, Margarita Day comes at a perfect time because I’ve had this fetish with blood oranges lately (considering they are in season right now, eek!) and I knew I wanted to make some sort of blood orange cocktail – so blood orange margarita it is! The perfect drink to mix into your Sunday fun-day, since mimosa’s can only go half the distance.
What you’ll need:
- 2 ounces tequila (I chose an orange infused one)
- 2 ounces fresh blood orange juice (about 1 large blood orange)
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
- 1 teaspoon agave
- 1 drop pure vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons sea salt
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- Lime wedges
Mix the salt and sugar together on a small plate for the rim topping. Run a wedge of lime around the top of your glass. Dip the top of the glass into the salt blend and set aside.
Fill a small cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the tequila, blood orange juice, lime juice, agave and slowly add a drop of vanilla extract.
Put on the lid and shake for 30 seconds. Strain the liquid into your glass and garnish with a slice of blood orange. Enjoy!
