Ah yes, festival season in Austin, Texas. A time where barely there clothing is acceptable and pretty much anything goes when it comes to outfit planning.
It’s no surprise I love playing dress up. In fact, a major part of why I love the infamous Austin City Limits music festival is because of the ability to switch up my usual attire for something a little more playful. Sure, the live music and mighty cone lunch breaks are great, but what really draws people (fellow fashion lovers) to Zilker Park in the 90 degree Texas heat is the consistent scouring of outfit ideas. AKA ACL is pretty much one live Pinterest feed and I don’t hate it.The back to back weekend long music festival attracts more than 400,000 festival go-ers and 140+ artists. This year we were #blessed with performances by Drake, The Weeknd and Foo Fighters, to name a few.
But the festival fashion is what really takes the cake. Here are some looks that caught my eye:
Crop tops are a staple in my wardrobe, so I was happy to see a variety of the mid drift cut gracing the festival grounds. Round sunglasses however, really made a debut this year. I mean how adorable are these mirror ray bans (and my gal, Meggie)?! :D
More babes. And this ain’t their first rodeo – they know how to rock that comfy cute.
The tuxedo dress aka my favorite trend of the moment.
I bought this number a few weeks ago (you can buy it here) and seriously can’t get enough of it. I love this look for so many reasons, but mainly because it’s so simple and makes such a statement. Dress it up or dress it down (as seen here), either way you still feel like a boss lady, which is always a good thing. The masculine lines and shift shape are so out of the norm for a women’s occasion dress, from day to night, it just works! I think this look should stay a while…what do y’all think?
Unfortunately, like many women, I have expensive taste and frankly my wallet just isn’t full of cash money. I often find myself walking through stores thinking “that’s way too expensive, I might as well make it” and instantly get to work. Case in point this Tory Burch beach tote that retails for a whopping $295. Yikes. I had this wicker bag hiding in storage and knew it was perfect for a little DIY project, not to mention today is Cinco De Mayo and the colors are so fitting to the holiday! This can double as a beach tote OR a picnic basket filled with all the chips and guac you could ever want. Heading to the La Condesa Cindo De Mayo Block Party tonight? This little number might make its debut.
Pom Poms are key to taking this tote from drab to fab. I decided to make navy blue poms to match the stitch in the basket. Find out how to make your own here.I tied eight pom poms (about three inches round), along the trim of the basket. The good thing about working with wicker is the easy access for tying thread together, but there are many options, so make sure you choose the tote you like best before getting started!
Isn’t it darling?! If anyone is interested in adding this to their handbag selection, let me know, I’d be happy to make you one! $25 a pop is much better than the alternative :) In other news, Happy Cinco De Mayo! May your day be filled with more beans and rice than you know what to do with. Olé!
Nothing says “Spring is here!” more than blossoming trees and flowy white dresses, which is why this dress is one of my fav’s. Truthfully, I wear it far too often, but it’s one of those you just can’t take off because it’s so comfortable and goes with almost any occasion. Dress it up or dress it down, and you still feel like a million bucks. I styled this fit with this adorable scarf and gem earrings for a casual brunch with friends…now all I’m missing is my frozen peach bellini. Well, the past few days have been quite the whirlwind, to say the least! SXSW wrapped up, I headed up to Fort Worth for a wedding this weekend (which was b.e.a-utiful) and spring cleaning has been number #1 on my to-do list. Seriously, where the heck does the time go?
I’m pretty excited though, because Spring has officially kicked off and that means tan lines, wake surfing and endless days of sunshine (in conjunction with extreme heat), are in the near future. This is also a time of seasonal transition, where stores have random assortments of inventory and you wonder if sandals paired with that all white outfit are socially acceptable yet, which can really toy with your fashion emotions.
I am loving this look because it is totally neutral ground – a casual earthy color shirt, minimal accessories and this cream leather skirt, which is having a major moment lately. The palette is not too bold for the roller coaster weather we are experiencing here in Austin either (you know, gloomy one day, 80 and sunny the next). Needless to say, I’m ready for this transition season to be over. Summer wherey’at?
