Birthday bubbly and Joan.

This was my second attempt at making a cake and surprisingly a little more challenging than the first. One of my best friends, Nicole, was having her birthday celebration in Fredericksburg, Texas, which is famous for its boutique antique shops and wine tours. Therefore, I thought making a cake which incorporated some champagne and relaxation was appropriate. I made a girl laying in a claw foot tub taking a champagne bubble bath, how amazing does that sound?!IMG_4523This cake was made with a dense white filling with vanilla buttercream frosting. I used fondant mixed with food coloring to get the right color for the skin, hair and champagne bottles. The bubbles are edible pearls, and really add to the champagne bubble bath look I was going for :) IMG_4527The hardest part of this cake was sculpting the face, which is evident since it ended up looking more like, um, Joan Rivers (whom I adore, but not the look I was going for). 10310657_10102484761520087_3588041445548980665_nI’ve started to love making cakes because they make such a statement to a party spread! We had such a blast in Fredericksburg and were in definite need of some R&R after that wine filled weekend. Happy Birthday love!
