Got weekend plans?

IMG_6005Fact: Austin has had more rain this year than Portland AND Seattle!

If you live in Austin, or been keeping up with Al Roker lately, you’ve probably seen the torrential downpours we’ve been experiencing – and I’m not complaining. Mother Nature is getting us out of this drought and filling our lakes, just in time for summer board meetings (wake surfing Lake Austin).

So yes, thunderstorms are in our 7 day forecast, but I have just the thing to turn that frown upside down. Thankfully, with Austin being a maker + do’er city, there are a lot of events this weekend to keep your right brain moving and mildly dry. Clearly, I love crafting, art and anything in between, so if we’re on the same page, you’re in for a treat. Check out some of the events going on in Austin during this rainy weekend:

Renegade Craft Fair – Calling all DIY’ers! This event showcases makers of all kinds and you can even purchase your goods right away and bring them home to bae. From 11-6pm Saturday and Sunday, you’ll enjoy sipping mimosas and shopping for unnecessary home decor. Sounds pretty perfect to me!15708397124_4333a673f7_o-e1422383760991

West Austin Studio Tour – You’ve heard of the East Austin Studio Tour (and, well, hopefully the EAUFT), but for the 4th year, Big Medium has continued their efforts to support another great art/event/happening, that is the West Austin Studio Tour. Discover new artists and explore their studios in their self-guided tour, all west of I-35. Still unsure? It’s free.11205988_10153313148074036_4943282366283623188_n*Pick up your catalog from the Austin Public Library for a full list of events.

Holy Grail Vintage Pop Up Shop – Three designers curate quite the collection of antique gems at this pop up shop guaranteed to be a vintage lovers dream. Just look at their hashtag (#holygrailvintage) to lure you in before the shop opens at 11am this Sunday.11147583_10206654686306123_5753895710748460787_n

Spring Jazz Brunch – If you love brunch (because who doesn’t?) and jazz music, look no further than Hotel San Jose for their Spring Jazz brunch series. This is the second to the last before it’s over for summer, so consider this a must on your Saturday morning to do list.11174901_10152694070961673_8478790337935394725_n

TONIGHT! If you happen to be in Houston, check out my friend’s movie debut Echoes of War at AMC Dunvale 30 at 9pm. It won the Grand Prize Jury Award for best ensemble at the Dallas Film Festival, so you know it’s gonna be good ;)background

Happy Friday!!!!

SAMSUNG CSCThe tuxedo dress aka my favorite trend of the moment.

I bought this number a few weeks ago (you can buy it here) and seriously can’t get enough of it. I love this look for so many reasons, but mainly because it’s so simple and makes such a statement. Dress it up or dress it down (as seen here), either way you still feel like a boss lady, which is always a good thing. The masculine lines and shift shape are so out of the norm for a women’s occasion dress, from day to night, it just works! I think this look should stay a while…what do y’all think? SAMSUNG CSC

Moms that brunch.

Mother’s day is in just a couple days, so if you’re scrambling for ideas to make her smile from ear to ear, take a look at these bunch spots and breakfast-in-bed ideas that are guaranteed to make her wish Mother’s Day was 365 days a year.

Eden East on the eastside (farm to table, outdoor atmosphere, love this place)

Olivia on South Lamar (classics)

Hudson’s on the Bend in Lakeway (this is my new favorite restaurant!)

Yellow Jacket Social Club on the eastside (outdoor seating, relaxed environment, great shrimp and grits)

Hillside Farmacy on the eastside (quaint vibe, great food)

Feeling up to the challenge? Whip up a delicious meal for Mom, she will love it!

For you late risers, this overnight french toast can be made the night before! All you need is a quick pop in the oven and a pot of coffee brewing before service starts :)

I made these dutch babies before, and my mom loved them! So they are going back on the brunch table again. Try them out, they are super easy to make and incredibly delish!9878b477578b7313c0700442158fc8b1

I fell in love with mango mimosas when I couldn’t stop sipping them at El Alma with the girls. Here is a simple recipe to change up this classic brunch cocktail.b13a352d8e212ed1ac8b8c2cf253458f

Being that I’m from Seattle, smoked salmon is a must for practically every meal (at least in my family). We eat lox bagels ALL the time because they are just that good. Try setting up a bagel bar for brunch, all parties will be thankful.99684a03d35d5a8761006d23e974bd22Happy Mother’s Day y’all!

DIY Pom Pom Tote

toryburchtoteUnfortunately, like many women, I have expensive taste and frankly my wallet just isn’t full of cash money. I often find myself walking through stores thinking “that’s way too expensive, I might as well make it” and instantly get to work. Case in point this Tory Burch beach tote that retails for a whopping $295. Yikes. I had this wicker bag hiding in storage and knew it was perfect for a little DIY project, not to mention today is Cinco De Mayo and the colors are so fitting to the holiday! This can double as a beach tote OR a picnic basket filled with all the chips and guac you could ever want. Heading to the La Condesa Cindo De Mayo Block Party tonight? This little number might make its debut.

SAMSUNG CSCPom Poms are key to taking this tote from drab to fab. I decided to make navy blue poms to match the stitch in the basket. Find out how to make your own here.SAMSUNG CSCI tied eight pom poms (about three inches round), along the trim of the basket. The good thing about working with wicker is the easy access for tying thread together, but there are many options, so make sure you choose the tote you like best before getting started!
SAMSUNG CSCIsn’t it darling?! If anyone is interested in adding this to their handbag selection, let me know, I’d be happy to make you one! $25 a pop is much better than the alternative :) In other news, Happy Cinco De Mayo! May your day be filled with more beans and rice than you know what to do with. Olé!
